After a century of research and technologically successful unmanned missions to Proxima Centauri and Barnard's Star, a United Earth began an audacious mission: To build a multi-generational colony ship and launch it toward the solar system.
The starship Odysseus took decades to design and build, but it was eventually completed, crewed with 10,000 carefully selected personnel and launched into deep space.
That was four hundred years ago.
It has been two years since the arrival of Odysseus at the TRAPPIST-1 system. We are the descendants of the original pioneers; generations of our space-faring ancestors were born on the ship and lived their lives in transit, leaving their children to continue the journey. At long last, we arrived.
But upon entry into the system, Odysseus experienced a serious malfunction caused by a solar flare from the angry red sun. After a rushed and rough landing on Planet 1e, the ship is irreparably damaged and will never fly again. For better or worse, 1e is where the people of Odysseus must make our stand.
Most of us survived the impact, but a great deal of our supplies were destroyed or scattered around the planet. For this reason, we must gather their own natural resources if we want to have nice things. Odysseus’ computers survived the impact so advanced blueprints will be made available to those with sufficient skill in the art.
To help manage the distribution of resources, we have developed a tungsten-based economy, with the Tungsten Coin being legal tender.
The first settlement near the ship is expanding but still fairly basic, with homesteads, villages and research outposts having been established across the planet. Only one shuttle survived the crash; it's used to ferry settlers to and from the nearest moon, which is rich in minerals and has become a settlement for those of us seeking to make our fortunes in precious metals.
Some of us are seeking riches; some are seeking influence. Most of us are simply seeking to survive comfortably on this alien world.
